The massive Target data breach won’t be escaping people’s minds anytime soon. What began as a case of credit card hacking turned into much more when Target released that hackers have PIN numbers as well. The latest news shows that even more secure data may be exposed than initially expected.
Target Security Breach
In a recent report on the breach, Target officials stated, “At this time, the investigation has determined that the stolen information includes names, mailing addresses, phone numbers or email addresses for up to 70 million people.”

In an attempt to waive the uncertainties of stolen information, Target announced that they would offer one year of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to all Target guests who shopped at U.S. stores. Target chose ProtectMyID, an information services company that helps individuals check their credit reports, as well as monitor for and resolve identity theft.
How to enroll:
1. Visit creditmonitoring.target.com to request an activation code. Guests will be required to submit their name and an email address. Guests will receive a unique activation code and directions on enrollment within 1-5 days.
2. After guests receive their activation code from Target, they may visit www.protectmyid.com/target and use the code to start the enrollment process.
3. Click the red “Click to Redeem Your Activation Code” button and begin taking advantage of all the ProtectMyID features.
Shoppers have until April 23 to register for their activation code. All codes must be redeemed by April 30.
